Year of the Garden
The Year of the Garden 2022, a Centennial Celebration of our horticulture sector, has been proclaimed to commemorate Canada's rich garden heritage, celebrate today's vibrant garden culture, and create important legacies for a sustainable future.
Michel Gauthier, executive director of the Canadian Garden Council, and Gloria Beck, Board member of the CGC will present on this initiative. They will also be including information about First Nations' knowledge of living in harmony with plants and nature.

Dave Hanson from Sage Garden will share his extensive knowledge about growing tomatoes including his tips and tricks about when to plant, how to plant, fertilizing, pruning and choosing varieties for our climate.

Shade Gardening
Sandy Venton, a passionate Winnipeg flower gardener will present a slide show on the various plants that do well in shade, the types of shade and the challenges faced.

Pruning
Gord Bone, landscape architect, will be teaching us how to prune, when to prune and why we should prune.
May 25 & 26, 2022 Plant Auction
Plant Auction
The famous Charleswood Garden Club auction will be online again this year As usual there will be a large selection of flower and vegetable bedding plants, perennials and hanging baskets including old and new varieties at this annual fundraiser. Members are being asked to start a few plants and to think about what they can dig up and divide once spring comes.
June 21, 2022 Garden Party 7:00 - 9:00PM
Garden Party
A chance to gather after the long winter to trade garden stories with other members, have a drink and celebrate the Year of the Garden. Our Garden Party will coincide with the equinox and the official national celebration of gardens and gardening to be held between June 11 to 19. (we’ll be off by a couple of days).
July 8 & 9, 2022 Garden Walk
Garden Walk
Our members love to share their knowledge and their actual gardens. Garden Walks started during COVID as a way for members to share their gardens in a ‘safe’ way. They have proven to be very popular. Our Garden Walks are open to Charleswood Garden Club members.
July 14, 2022 Bus Trip
Bus Trip
This fun bus trip is to Riding Mountain National Park to tour the gardens. There will be stops at the Lily Nook in Neepawa and the Riverside Hutterite Colony for a tour of their gardens and a meal. We will explore these wonderful places at the peak of their growing season.

What better way to celebrate The Year of the Garden than with a guided tour of Manitoba’s newest public garden?
Mid-August 2022 Sundae Saturday
Sundae Saturday at Garden Plots
Eat ice cream sundaes as you wander around discovering what interesting things our gardeners are doing. There will be an official tree planting (type to be determined) in recognition of The Year of the Garden.

This is a chance to pick up some extra vegetables, baking, garden garage sale items and buy from vendors who have rented our tables.

Gardening for Pollinators
Kelly Leask of Prairie Originals will be speaking on conservation opportunities that encourage birds, bees, bugs and butterflies to visit our gardens and green spaces.

How do you tell the difference between shade or part-shade? You can’t, unless you stand there all day. Virginia Stephenson will show you how to sun map your garden to help you get the right plant in the right place.
December 14, 2022 Pot Luck Supper and Christmas Program
Pot Luck Supper
Join your fellow members and enjoy a pot luck supper followed by festive activities and socializing. Let’s see what creation Pat Roberts will demonstrate for us this year for the draw prize. Please bring a potluck dish to share, your own cutlery, plate, cup and possibly a food item to donate to Charleswood Food Bank. Family members are welcome.
