January 10, 2018 Regular meeting

Program: Sustainable and Indigenous Practices at the Klinic Garden
Featuring a presentation by Audrey Logan, Land Steward of Klinic Community Garden on west Broadway, a self-sustaining permaculture site which honours indigenous practices to support the long-term health of people and the land.

January 25, 26, and 27, 2018 MHA Convention in Neepawa

This year the MHA Convention is at the Neepawa United Church in Neepawa Manitoba.

February 14, 2018 Regular meeting

Program: Gardening in the New Weather
Charlotte Tataryn of Charlotte's Place, a Winnipeg Landscape and Interior Design Consultant, will present the topic of "Gardening in the New Weather".

March 14, 2018 Regular meeting

Program: Bats and Cutworms
Linda Wall, educated at Lakehead University in the Forestry Program, Board Director MHA Area 6 and member of the St. James Horticultural Society, will present "Bats and Cutworms: What They Have in Common"!

April 11, 2018 Regular meeting

Program: Rain Gardens
Dr. Dorthea Gregoire, Roseau Watershed Technician for Seine-Rat River Conservation District, will present "Rain Gardens: Purpose and Creation".

May 24, 2018 Perennials and Annuals Auction

A large selection of bedding plants, unique perennials and hanging baskets is available at this live auction. Members can also pick this year's gift of a parsley plant. The auction is at Westdale CC, 550 Dale Blvd. Set-up begins at 4:00 pm and auction starts at 6:30 pm.

September 8, 2018 Gardeners' Market

Members donate surplus produce, homemade baking, divided perennials and unneeded garden tools to our fall market. The market is on Saturday and starts at 9:00am at the Old Library Parking Lot.

October 10, 2018 Regular meeting

Program: No-Till Method of Gardening
Ted McLachlan is a passionate community gardener and Senior Scholar, Department of Landscape Architecture, U of M. He will discuss the key steps in setting up a no-till garden process and how to manage it over time.

November 14, 2018 Regular meeting

Program: Extending the Growing Season
Mario Constantini, owner of ADM Storage on McGillivray Boulevard, will present "Extending the Growing Season" using a system he has developed after turning a used shipping container into a greenhouse.

December 11, 2018 Pot Luck Supper and Christmas Program

Program: Pot Luck Supper
Enjoy a pot luck supper with fellow members followed by festive activities and socializing. Please bring a potluck dish to share, your own cutlery, plate, and cup. Also bring a food item to donate to Charleswood Food Bank.

I decided to grow it; now what do I do with it?

After a couple of years of traditional in ground gardening Anita Jacobson and her husband Tim went with raised beds so they would be able to continue to garden as they got older. Anita will talk about what they grow and how growing it fits their life. She looks forward to sharing some ideas of what to do with produce.
