Regular meetings usually take place on the second Wednesday of the month from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm at 5006 Roblin Blvd. (between fire hall and library).

January 11, 2017 Regular meeting

Program: Square Foot Gardening
Mick Mansfield will be presenting on the techniques of Square Foot Gardening. Mick is a Master Gardener, a Master Composter, has Square Foot Gardening Teaching Certification and is passionate about showing people how to grow their own food in a small space.

January 26, 27, and 28, 2017 MHA Convention in Killarney

This year the MHA Convention is at the Christian Education Centre in Killarney Manitoba.

February 8, 2017 Regular meeting

Program: Roses in your Garden
Are you ready for a touch of summer in February? Fran Werschler, Master Gardener and former editor of The Prairie Garden, will present the subject of roses, including varieties for our growing zone. Everyone welcome.

March 8, 2017 Regular meeting

Program: Rain Gardens
Dr. Dorothea Gregoire, Roseau Watershed Technician for Seine-Rat River Conservation District, will speak about rain gardens, what they are, why they are important and how to create beautiful gardens to collect storm water and rain runoff. Her presentation will also contain an introduction to other water management strategies.

April 12, 2017 Regular meeting

Program: Native Plants and Grasses
Craig Fisher, Agronomist of Native Plant Solutions, will speak about the native plants and grasses included in the landscaping of the new Ridgewood Development in Charleswood, how and why these plants were chosen, what maintenance is required, and how these could be used in similar areas in our own gardens and yards.

May 24, 2017 Perennials and Annuals Auction Sale

Auction at Westdale CC, 550 Dale Blvd: Set-up will begin at 5:00 and auction will start at 6:30.

September 9, 2017 Gardeners' Market and Canada 150 Tea

The Fall Gardeners' Market is at Charleswood 55 Plus Centre, in the old library parking lot, 5006 Roblin Blvd. Set-up and drop off of produce will begin at 8:30 and sale is from 10:00 to 1:00.
Then, our Celebration of Canada 150 Tea will be in the old library from 12:00 to 2:00. During the tea you will have an opportunity to see pictures of the Plant Charleswood Red and White displays.

October 11, 2017 Regular meeting

Program: Gardening for Pollinators
Kelly Leask, Manager of Prairie Originals, will present Gardening for Pollinators, conservation opportunities that encourage birds, bees, bugs and butterflies to visit our gardens and greenspaces.

November 8, 2017 Regular meeting

Program: A-Z's of Growing Spectacular Hot Peppers
Don and Bobbi Bartos, who grow over 150 varieties of hot peppers in their St. Vital garden, will present the A-Z's of growing spectacular hot peppers. They will have some of their home-grown spice blends available for sale.

December 13, 2017 Christmas Gathering and Pot Luck Supper

Program: Enjoy a pot luck supper at 6:00 pm with fellow members followed by festive activities and socializing. Please bring a potluck dish to share, your own cutlery, plate, and cup. Also bring a food item to donate to Charleswood Food Bank.

I decided to grow it; now what do I do with it?

After a couple of years of traditional in ground gardening Anita Jacobson and her husband Tim went with raised beds so they would be able to continue to garden as they got older. Anita will talk about what they grow and how growing it fits their life. She looks forward to sharing some ideas of what to do with produce.
