Regular meetings usually take place on the second Wednesday of the month from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm at 5006 Roblin Blvd. (between fire hall and library). NOTE: Throughout the COVID lockdown, meetings will be held at 7:00 pm online.

January 13, 2021 Regular meeting

Seed Starting
Mick Manfield will cover the 2 basic methods of seed starting which are applicable to about 80% of the seeds that most gardeners grow. Also covered will be some tips and tricks that Mick has learned about the other types of seeds.

February 10, 2021 Regular meeting

The Dirt on Soil
Gord Bone intends to expose the ‘dirt’ on soil, through application of simplified science, analogies and referencing natural processes. The intended outcome will be a distilled list of best management practices. To help with this reveal, mulching, fertilization and soil pH will be among the topics for examination.

Assiniboine Park, the LEAF, the new Conservatory
Gerald Dieleman will share with you what is going on at the gardens at Assiniboine Park and Zoo, his role at the Assiniboine Park Conservancy, and what new things we can expect to see this coming year.

April 14, 2021 Regular meeting

Attracting Honey Bees
Rebecca Krowelski, owner and operator of Prairie Sweetheart Honey Apiary will talk about honey bees including information about how to attract pollinators to your garden.

May TBA, 2021 Plant Auction

Plant Auction
The format of our usual live auction has yet to be determined but do plan to take part. A large selection of bedding plants, perennials and hanging baskets including old and new varieties will be available. Consider starting a few plants to bring to the sale or think about what you can dig up and divide once spring comes.

Sundae Saturday at Garden Plots
Eat ice cream sundaes as you wander around discovering what interesting things our gardeners are doing.

Garden tour at Prairie Originals
Kelly Leask will give suggestions of native prairie plants for ground cover for bare areas of your garden or to replace some of that grass. She will also give some tips for indoor planting and propagation of these plants. She is opening the shop so we can shop while we are there. Rain date, July 18 2021 11:00 am.

Chris Olson, an ISA Certified Arborist from TNT Tree Service Ltd will talk about the best trees & shrubs to plant in Winnipeg

October 16, 2021 Workshop

Sensational Fall Salads with Homemade Dressings
Getty Stewart will toss together a variety of salads using fall vegetables such as kale, squash, apples and carrots, talk about using whole grains in salads and cover tips and tricks for making your own salad dressings. Registration required.

November 10, 2021 Regular meeting

Growing Orchids in Your Home
Joan Porteous will talk about understanding the components of an orchid plant, different varieties of orchids, cultural considerations, re-potting considerations, orchid pests, and things to consider when purchasing a new orchid plant.

I decided to grow it; now what do I do with it?

After a couple of years of traditional in ground gardening Anita Jacobson and her husband Tim went with raised beds so they would be able to continue to garden as they got older. Anita will talk about what they grow and how growing it fits their life. She looks forward to sharing some ideas of what to do with produce.
