Regular meetings usually take place on the second Wednesday of the month from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm at 5006 Roblin Blvd. (between fire hall and library).

January 8, 2020 Regular meeting

Program: Naturalist-Style Gardening
Maureen Krauss, guest editor of The Prairie Garden Magazine will discuss the new naturalist style, or new perennialism, and tie it into articles found in the 2020 edition of The Prairie Garden Magazine. There are many good examples from which to take inspiration; from local gardens to great perennial combinations. She promises lots of juicy photos that we gardeners love to see in depths of winter.

February 12, 2020 Regular meeting

Program: Lilies
Sandy Venton will be using her expertise and photos to tell us about new & heritage lilies, including martagons which grow in less than full-sun spots. She will touch on planting info like soil, water, sun and emphasize the ease of lilies' care. She will present a summary and handout of the latest report on the red lily beetle.

March 11, 2020 Regular meeting

Program: Saving Seeds
Saving vegetable and flower seeds from your favourite plants is one of the best ways to share your love of gardening. Hear Susan LeBlanc share her experiences and knowledge on seed saving.

April 8, 2020 Regular meeting

Program: Winnipeg Trees and You (Rescheduled to September)
Lisa Jones from Trees Winnipeg will share with us the latest news about our Winnipeg trees. She will also tell us how we personally and as a club might be able to help with the various city initiatives including the ReLeaf Tree Planting Program.

Mark this date in your calendar and plan to attend! Maybe also start a few plants to bring to the sale or think about what you can dig up and divide once spring comes.
A large selection of bedding plants, perennials and hanging baskets including old and new varieties will be available at this live auction.

Join Richard Menec and Sophia Munro as they talk about the various stages of growing garlic from bulbils to cloves.

Native Prairie Plants as Ground Covers (Cancelled)
Kelly Leask from Prairie Originals will be giving suggestions of native prairie plants for ground cover for bare areas of your garden or to replace some of that grass. She will also give some tips for indoor planting and propagation of these plants.

What I learned in my 2020 Garden (Cancelled)
Tiffany Grenkow will tell us about her tried and true plants and strategies and the new things she experimented with in her 2020 garden.
Feeding Winter Birds (online - to replace What I learned in my 2020 Garden)
Brenda Bacon will tell us about feeding birds in our backyards. We will also have our AGM.

Christmas Celebration (online)
Join us online to toast our 2020 garden achievements and to watch Pat Roberts create a simple Christmas display from items found in your own garden.

After a couple of years of traditional in ground gardening Anita Jacobson and her husband Tim went with raised beds as they knew they were in their forever home and wanted to be able to continue to garden as they got older. Anita will talk about what they grow and how growing it fits their life. She looks forward to sharing some ideas of what to do with produce.

E-transfer $10.00 to membership@charleswoodgc.ca or mail a cheque to: 1422 Loudoun Road, R3S 1A4 and make the cheque payable to Noreen Kolesar. Please include your address and phone number. Your membership card with your membership number will be available to pick up at our next regular meeting.
